A letter to friends, old and new: Thankyou

[This post is part of My November Experiment, where I seek to write words of encouragement and love to those close to me. You can read about why I am doing this here: The November Experiment. Feeling very thankful for the gift of friendship tonight]

Dear Friend,

Old friend, new friend, true friend.

If you are reading this, you know who you are.

I want to write here now to say that I am so glad that our paths crossed when they did, all those many years ago, or only just recently. In fact, the span we’ve known each other doesn’t really matter, because when you click with someone, time seems irrelevant.

You amaze and fascinate me.

When I spend time with you my horizon grows and my heart smiles. My burdens seem lighter, and my laughter comes looser.

You see things like me, which makes me feel less alone, and unlike me, which helps me learn how to expand my vision.

You teach me things just by being you, in all your wondrous particularity.

Your listening ear is like a healing balm to my sore places.
Your words of encouragement help me to get up again and keep going when I think I don’t know how.

I realise as we get older, there is less time to spend together, but whenever we do meet, it’s like we never stopped talking. And I don’t ever want to stop talking.

So, I’m writing here to say thank you. You are a gift to me. One for which I am so amazingly grateful.

Please know this. I love you. I am honoured to know you.

Your very humble friend.
